Lost Pet Listings – How to have a good listing www.lostandfoundhound.com

We get a number of listings for lost or found dogs and or cats on the site http://www.lostandfoundhound.com and the listings do not tell us anything about the lost pet.  People are utilizing social media quite a bit in the search so be sure when posting your pet, you include identifying information.  When posting a listing to any site be sure to include the following to help in the search for your pet:

  • Sex of pet
  • Is the pet spayed or neutered
  • where was the pet last seen
  • color of pet and breed
  • include a picture
  • any distinct markings to help id the pet
  • Is the dog or cat microchipped-if so be sure the registration is up to date (check this out at http://www.petmicrochiplookup.org)
  • how long has the pet been missing?
  • do they wander or are they house cats or indoor pets?
  • are they current on shots
  • do they have a collar on? Any tags?
  • lastly, include contact information such as phone, email and be sure to check these frequently

Just listing this information when posting to social media sites can help you in your search.  Be sure to utilize http://www.lostandfoundhound.com in your search.  Good luck at finding your pet.

Lost a pet in CA? Found a pet in NY? www.lostandfoundhound.com is the place to post

We have been amazed and humbled by the postings that we have gotten on our site. They range anywhere from the family who is missing their family pet to someone who has found a dog and is looking hard for the owner rather than putting the pet in a shelter. Kudos.

We have some great tips on our site if you have lost or found a pet. Be sure to check them out, and use them..they work. Some things to do immediately are to make sure your microchip is registered. Many people do not realize that they have to register them annually with some of the companies. A good place to store that info is http://www.akccar.org the canine and recovery arm of the AKC. They have a great program for registering your chips. Also be sure to post everywhere and anywhere. We always repost the postings to our site on our facebook site. It definitely helps spread the word. Keep your faith in your search. Sometimes the days may turn into weeks, but know a success story is out there for pets lost longer than yours. In the words of Jimmy V, “Dont ever Give up!”

Looking for lost pets; www.lostandfoundhound.com; putting posters up!

We have had a lot of lost dog and lost cat listings as of late where the pet has been missing for a long time meaning ten or more days. Some of those pets have been reunited by a combination of posting to our site, social media, and putting up signs. The signs that have been successful have gone by the 5 word rule. The posterboard has been flouroscent with a white poster inset in the sign. The sign then has five words in bold such as LOST DOG BEAGLE BROWN AND WHITE. with the info below and a picture. The signs are taped to a telephone pole with several layers of duct tape wrapped around the pole. Know that if your pet has been missing, not to give up hope. Keep the ads posted, look in all the shelters in your community as well as neighboring communities. Dont give up hope!

Lostandfoundhound users are amazing

I am constantly amazed by those who use our site whether they are posting a lost or found dog or cat or if they are using the site to help make a pet connection with someone they dont even know.

We get a number of requests to remove listings from our site just because the person who found a pet has decided to keep it after looking exhaustingly for the owners. Dedicated Animal owners are truly amazing people with a compassion that I wish many more in our world would have.

Be sure to use http://www.lostandfoundhound.com if you have lost or found a pet. We will be ther looking to make the connection to bring your or a grieving family’s pet home.

I found a dog, what do I do? www.lostandfoundhound.com

We have a number of non dog or cat people who find pets and will house them while looking for their owners. Some don’t post ads or call vets, they wait for a poster or a sign. Be sure if you find a dog, to post to sites like http://www.lostandfoundhound.com because they will cross post to Face Book and sometimes to Twitter. Take the pet to a local vet (any vet) and have them check for a micro-chip because a chip will have the owners information for contacting them. Also look on Craigslist under both pets and lost and found. Call local rescues as they may have a tip on the pet. Rescues can be a lot of help. Also call area veterinarians. Put out flyers, hand out business cards with the animals info…Use animal control as a last resort. They take the animals to the local shelter where there is a hold time of 72 hours and then they are able to euthanize a pet. Exhaust all possibilities of finding the owner before you do that and try if at all possible, to not do that.

Helping lost pets come home, www.lostandfoundhound.com

It is amazing to think that we have had the site, lostandfoundhound.com up since late July and the number of dogs and cats that we have reunited with their families. I have been amazed at the dedication of those from all over who post lost pets and cross post to other sites. One person, Heather, has taken it upon herself to help with the search of Irish Wolfhounds. This person has a full time job, but cares enough about the breed and their owners from all over to help them search for their dogs. What an amazing person. There are others, Lost and Found Dogs- North Carolina, Virginia, and DC spends tireless hours cross posting and looking for matches. Again, amazing people. I am proud at the direction that our site is taking and am equally as excited about the number of those who have embraced our site. Today we had two lost birds in two different states! To think that a losthound site is able to help other pets makes me happy! Thank you for visiting us and for using our site. http://www.lostandfoundhound.com

Observations from a search and find website. When people find a dog, it is imperative that they check for any identifying marks as well as if possible take to a local vet to scan the pet for a microchip. If you cannot keep the pet until the owner is found do not call a county shelter..these are high kill shelters and although they say there is a 3, 5 or 7 day hold, that is not always true. Look to local SPCA’s that are no kill, and other no kill pet places to hold the pets. Animal Control will only drop at the local shelter.

We get a number of dogs who have escaped their electric fence. Decide if it is important to have a yard w/o a visible fence or a yard where you know your dog will not be able to escape by a dead battery. Also beware of dog thefts when the animal is visible to outsiders. Protect your pet.

We are dedicated to help lost dogs or lost cats to find their way home. Please look after your pets.
